The biggest models we studied

On MakerWorld, the most downloaded model in our sample is Bambu Scraper Grip, made by Bambu Lab itself, with 279,150 downloads. Its Bambu Spool is second with 154,265. On Printables the most downloaded free model in our sample is Dummy 13, with 328,121 downloads, followed by Prusa Research's Prusa Face Shield at 218,540.

Printables hides download counts on paid models, so its figures here cover free models only. Each site gets its own list, and we don't rank one site's numbers against the other's.

We studied 1,004,137 public models from MakerWorld and Printables, two of the biggest sites for sharing 3D printing files: 327,759 from MakerWorld and 676,378 from Printables. Every number here describes those models, not every model ever posted.

Most downloaded

Two of MakerWorld's top five come from Bambu Lab, and both sit in the 3D Printer category. Printables' top five skews old: 4 of them went up before 2023, the year the oldest model in MakerWorld's top five was posted. The earliest is from 2019.

One model makes both lists. Cute Mini Octopus is number 3 on MakerWorld and number 3 on Printables.

The print records under the chart only count profiles with at least 10 logged prints, so a profile printed once can't take a record. In our sample, the longest is Ikea Bror - Normal Lip - Full Set at 991 hours on the slicer's estimate. The heaviest, Iowa Class Battleship FULL-SCALE 16" AP Round, takes 11.7 kg of filament. 3 profiles tie for the most colors in our sample, at 30 each.

MakerWorld records

Bambu Scraper Grip holds more than downloads. In our sample it has the most logged prints, 231,970, and the most comments, 34,468.

The likes record in our sample goes to Flexi Funny Octopus with 29,317. The saves record in our sample is stranger. Drill Dust Collector has 81,792 saves and 55,069 downloads. It's been saved more often than it's been downloaded. A save is a maybe-later, and this one collected a lot of them.

A model titled "Harry Potter Font Keychain 130 names and counting!" carries 173 print profiles, the most of any model we studied. Going by the title, that's a keychain with a profile for each name.

Printables records

Dummy 13 also has the most views and the most comments on Printables in our sample: 945,602 views and 5,423 comments. The likes and saves records go to Rugged Box (Parametric), with 36,571 likes and 17,100 saves. The most makes and ratings in our sample both belong to Filament Clip | Grandma's Favorite Filament Clip.

The oddest records have little to do with popularity. openscad-ldraw contains 7,435 files and has 93 downloads. Fizban's Treasury of Dragons Collection is the biggest STL upload in our sample at 72.2 GB.
