Bambu Lab Is Replacing Some AMS 2 Pro Feeders for Free

Bambu Lab announced on October 27th that some AMS 2 Pro units have feeders that are wearing out much faster than they should. According to Bambu’s service notice, a batch of AMS 2 Pro feeder units made between May and July 2026 did not get enough grease on their gears during production. If your AMS 2 Pro is part of that batch, Bambu will send you four brand new feeders, one for every slot, for free!

This is not technically a recall. Bambu is calling it a service program, which means you do not have to ship your AMS anywhere. Instead, Bambu sends you the parts and you swap them in yourself.

What Goes Wrong

The feeder units are the four motors at the front of the AMS 2 Pro that push filament out of each slot. When the gears inside do not have enough grease, they slowly grind themselves down. The first sign is usually fine plastic dust building up inside the clear feeder covers. After that, the AMS starts having trouble loading or unloading filament, and eventually it can stop detecting filament altogether. Bambu has photos of normal and worn feeders on its wiki, so it is worth comparing them to your own.

What You Get

Users with an affected unit get four new feeder units. Bambu sells these for $39.99 each, so that is about $160 worth of parts. On top of that, Bambu is giving out a $20 discount code for your next purchase (matched to your local currency), and the new feeders come with a fresh three month warranty that starts the day they arrive. You do not need to send the old feeders back.

How to Check if Yours Is Affected

Bambu has not published a list of affected serial numbers, so the only way to know for sure is to check yours. First, find your AMS 2 Pro’s serial number. It is printed on the AMS itself, and you can also find it in Bambu Handy under Settings > Firmware Version, or in Bambu Studio under Device > Update. Then enter it into Bambu’s registration form, which tells you right away whether your unit is covered. Be sure to log in with the Bambu account your printer is bound to. Bambu says it has already messaged affected users through MakerWorld and Bambu Handy, so check there too.

There is no deadline to register, but parts ship in batches in the order people sign up, over about 3 to 5 weeks, so it is a good idea to do it now. Each serial number can only be registered once, and submitting it again will only slow things down. If you already paid for replacement feeders, contact Bambu support with your serial number and receipt to ask for a refund. Bought your AMS used or from a reseller? It still counts, as long as the serial number does.

One thing to keep in mind is that some owners on the Bambu forum have decoded their serial numbers and think the bad batch was actually built from mid April to early May, not May to July. At least one user who runs 16 AMS 2 Pro units says none of them qualified, even though he replaces feeders every month. Until Bambu says more, the form is the only answer that counts.

Swapping the Feeders

Bambu’s replacement guide says the swap takes about 20 minutes with an H2.0 and an H1.5 Allen key. Turn off the AMS and unplug it from the printer first. Slots 2 and 3 are the trickiest, since you have to loosen two screws and flip the mainboard to reach them. When you are done, connect the AMS back to the printer and load some filament. If it loads without any errors, you are good to go!

If your AMS is working fine right now, Bambu says to keep using it until the new feeders arrive. If you are already seeing dust or loading failures, contact Bambu support instead of waiting.

Not in the Batch?

Not every feeding problem is this one. Broken filament stuck in the hub, debris in the feeder funnel, wet or brittle filament, a spool that cannot spin freely, and a loose feeder cable cause most AMS feeding errors. The light on each slot tells you a lot. For example, a single red flash means the feeder sees filament but the hub does not, which usually points to a feeding failure or a clogged tube. Our Spooly assistant can walk you through the common fixes.

All in all, this is a fair way for Bambu to handle a manufacturing mistake. Four free feeders and a discount code is more than a lot of companies would offer, and not having to box up an entire AMS and ship it back is a big plus.
